Why do you need a personal trainer?
First and foremost, not everyone needs a personal trainer.
You might read this blog and already be smashing it. Which is great, you’re good to go and cracking on in the gym!
However, for the majority of people, the following benefits of having a personal trainer helps make exercise a sustainable habit.
So, let’s get into the 5 benefits of having a personal trainer and why you might need one…
Reason 1: Knowledge and Guidance
This is potentially the biggest reason you might need a personal trainer and why they can be so great (if you pick a good personal trainer).
In our day-to-day lives, we hire specialists. Whether this is an accountant, builder or electrician, but when it comes to going to the gym, we try to wing it by ourselves.
Similar to an accountant, a personal trainer should be very knowledgeable in their field by knowing exactly what you need to achieve the goals you want. They should have spent years mastering their craft, so they can easily implement it into your fitness journey.
Why is this beneficial?
- Prevents injury
The last thing anyone wants from exercising is to get injured, but unfortunately, it’s pretty easy to do in the gym.
This often results in people being put off by free weights and they end up just sticking to the treadmill…
A personal trainer can provide the knowledge so that you move through each exercise optimally, preventing any injuries and achieving a super effective workout.
Even better still, a great personal trainer will actually educate you on the exercises, so that you feel confident going to the gym by yourself – this is ultimately the goal for a personal trainer.
The reason you stay with a personal trainer is in fact for the other reasons we mention later on.
Reason 2: Meet you where you’re at
It’s all well and good going to circuit classes or bodypump but unfortunately, these methods of exercise are not personalised to you at all.
Each person moves differently due to a number of reasons, therefore each session needs to be adapted and tailored around you!
This is why having a personal trainer is fantastic.
Whether you’ve never been to a gym before or you’ve been exercising for years, a personal trainer should be able to create a training programme that is unique to you so that you achieve an effective workout.
A common mistake people make when going to the gym is copying everyone else or doing a workout that is not suited to their body or aligned with their goals.
This brings me to my next benefit nicely…
Reason 3: Progression
It’s incredibly common for people to go to the gym consistently, but always pick up the same weights or do the same routine each time!
What’s the problem with this?
- You can become frustrated with the lack of progression
- You’re training the same muscles over and over again and missing out on others.
- You might become bored and give up – this is the last thing we want!
A personal trainer will progress your training!
Again, it doesn’t matter where you’re at with your fitness journey a personal trainer should always have the knowledge to be able to progress you.
Reason 4: Fun and enjoyable
Going to the gym is often considered a chore.
At Intent91, we truly believe if you find the right environment and exercise method, that everyone can enjoy fitness.
A personal trainer can help you achieve this!
Take our gym for example.
We’ve strived to create an environment that is fun and enjoyable, but how do we actually do this?
- We keep the training programmes updated, so they never get boring.
- We train in groups so that our members always have someone to chat to.
- We’ve built a community of like-minded people.
- Yes, we take the exercises seriously, but we also have a laugh in between sets and keep the session light-hearted.
There are loads of amazing personal trainers out there that have fantastic personalities and communities that will make you’re training much more enjoyable.
If you don’t enjoy something, you won’t stick with it long-term. This is something we truly believe at Intent91 and we think it’s crucial you find something that you actually enjoy.
Please note, it hasn’t got to be strength training! It could be running, cycling or paddle boarding (literally anything that gets you moving!)
Reason 5: Motivation / Accountability
Finally, motivation and accountability!
Two buzz words in the industry, but still very relevant.
A personal trainer can provide motivation, this doesn’t necessarily mean shouting in your face but instead being supportive and guiding you through a session when maybe you don’t really fancy it.
In addition, a personal trainer can hold you accountable! Once you’ve booked a session, it’s much harder to cancel or not show up. A good personal trainer will check-in, so when you’ve fallen off the wagon, they’re there to get you back on it.
At Intent91, if a member visits our gym less than 8 times in a month we will get in touch to make sure they’re all okay and if we can do anything for them!
This helps them stay on track.
