Here are 5 ways you can grow your clientele and reach capacity!
The most underrated marketing tool you have…word of mouth.
Growing your business with like-minded individuals is not only the best way to build a fantastic community but, it’s also the easiest and cheapest way.
You need to make sure your service is worth talking about! So, becoming an expert coach is extremely important.
Passing a personal training qualification is one thing, you can become qualified in as little as 3 weeks. However, it’s very unlikely that you will have the knowledge and tools to be a successful personal trainer in just 3 weeks.
You may have heard the saying that it takes 10,000 hours to become an expert in a field and we are true believers in this.
A personal training qualification gives you a good foundation, but it certainly doesn’t make you an expert.
Investing time and money into further education is so important. This could be courses from the likes of the PFCA, YouTube videos or hiring a mentor!
It’s important to note here, that further education never stops, you should always be spending time and money on ensuring you’re an expert in your field.
We’re always investing in our education here at Intent91!
Now, most personal trainers already market themselves on social media so here are our 5 tips for actually gaining clients from it:
- Pick one social media platform and go all in on it!
It’s very likely that you’re busy coaching clients, doing admin and planning sessions which leaves little time to create content.
Rather than trying to do TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat and so on – just pick one and be very good at it.
Please note, that your target audience will decide what platform you use.
Suggestion: if you’re an online coach, then TikTok is a great opportunity for you to reach a large audience and tap into a fairly new market.
- Be consistent!
You wouldn’t tell a client to train 5 days in a row, and then stop for a month would you?
So, don’t do the same with your marketing!
Set a goal and hit it! For example, post 3 times a week on Instagram and 5 stories every day.
- Get your personality across!
The truth is, to be a successful personal trainer people need to know, like and trust you…
Social media is an incredible tool for doing this every single day.
Which we think is pretty awesome.
- Give information away for FREE!
Be a point of information for your audience.
Give away technique tips, nutritional advice and just show everyone how much you know.
Be different with this as it’s a very crowded market, so find ways to do this that stand out!
People need to see proof that what you offer is actually going to be what they want and need.
Getting clients to talk about you is the BEST way to do this.
Here’s an example of one of ours.
We’ve done plenty on our Instagram so check that out if need any more inspiration – if you’d like more help, please do reach out!
Please note here, don’t get too caught up in the world of social media. You can still be a very successful personal trainer without even having social media.
Offline marketing methods
If you’re an in-person trainer then offline marketing methods are something that a lot of trainers overlook!
What does this include?
- Newspaper adverts – bonus point if you can get the paper to write about you for free, as we did here.
- Pop up workouts
- Nutritional seminars
It’s difficult to say which methods will work for your business so it’s important to test and measure!
An oldie, but still a great marketing tool.
If creating social media content is not your thing but you’re better at writing long copy then building an email list might be the best way to go.
The social media marketing tips very much transfer into email marketing.
- Be consistent
- Get your personality across
- Give away FREE content
- Social proof your product
How do I build an email list?
This is often the toughest part, especially if you’re starting out!
- Lead magnets
Create a lead magnet such as a training programme or recipe book and give it away for free in exchange for an email address.
Visit local events such as carnivals. This is great for building your brand and relationships in the local area.
You could give away prizes in return for email addresses.
- Ask people
You need to ask people to opt in!
Make sure it’s easy to opt-in via your website and social media channels.
Now, paid ads might seem a bit of a minefield and like anything, it takes time to understand.
There are multiple different methods of paid advertisement and which one suits your business will depend on a variety of factors.
So, whether you decide to choose Google Ads, Facebook Ads, TikTok Ads or so on it is hard to say which will work best for you without analysing your business and testing!
You might look at outsourcing your paid ads.
There are plenty of marketing agencies out there that can help you generate more leads and grow your clientele.
However, the reason this point is last is that in our opinion you shouldn’t consider paid advertisement unless you’re doing the above.
Let’s take Facebook Ads for example.
If you’re yet to master your craft, then spending money on paid ads is a waste as you are unlikely to convert them into members, and you could damage your reputation.
Similarly, building a social media presence that engages its followers and drives organic leads is a much more sustainable method of growing your business than using paid ads.
So yes, Facebook Ads are a great way to increase brand awareness and generate leads but the foundation of the business needs to be solid before you give money to Facebook or other platforms!
