Benefit 1: It’s a form of exercise!
Yes, many people don’t actually consider walking a form of exercise and this couldn’t be further from the truth!
In fact, even walking for just 10 minutes you’ll start receiving some of the amazing benefits you get from exercising, including:
- Improvement in mood
- Improved muscular endurance
- Improved cardiovascular endurance
And loads more, the list really is endless!
Benefit 2: It’s low impact!
Many forms of exercise such as running or HIIT training have quite a high impact on our joints, which is not ideal when you aren’t a spring chicken anymore.
Walking, on the other hand, has very little impact on your joints so you can keep your bones nice and healthy for longer!
This is not to say that there isn’t a place for running or higher impact forms of exercise, but dependent on your goal walking might be a better option long term! Like we always say – choose something you enjoy, as you’re more likely to stick with it long-term.
Benefit 3: It’s fun and FREE!
Especially in the summer months, walking is lovely!
Whether you’re catching the sunrise or sunset, there is no better feeling than getting out and about to get those steps in.
In addition, you can walk with friends and have a good old chin wag whilst you do it!

Benefit 4: It’s a great way to burn calories!
This benefit is completely dependent on your goal.
If your goal is to lose weight, then increasing the amount you walk per day will greatly affect the number of calories you burn.
This does not necessarily mean you need to walk 2 hours every single day, it might be a case of as and where you can, in turn increasing the number of steps you do.
Can you take the stairs instead of the lift?
Could you park a little further from the shops than you usually would?
Could you take a 10-minute walk on your lunch break instead of scrolling on social media?
Slight changes to your daily habits can make a big impact on your overall health and fitness.
Benefit 5 – It reduces stress levels and helps clear your head
With the rise of working from home, walking has become an even more important part of people’s days!
Working long hours at home alone can make you go a little crazy at times – getting some fresh air is crucial to ensure you stay focused and take your mind off a busy day.
Taking 30 minutes or so out of your day to go for a walk can make you more productive, improve your overall mood and talking from experience, it really helps with creative thinking.
A bonus point if you leave your phone at home!
Benefit 6: It’s easy and a great place to start!
Often the most challenging part of starting your health and fitness journey is often actually starting.
This is completely understandable if exercise is new to you.
The idea of going into an environment that can be pretty intimidating and full of people looking in mirrors is probably the last place you want to start
